Jaipur Literature Fest Announced its Fourth List of Speakers

So as to celebrate its 10th anniversary, Jaipur Literature Festival is announcing 10 speakers every week for JLF 2017, which is to be held from 19-23 January. JLF would do the same for 10 weeks every Tuesday between 18th October and 20th December.

This Tuesday, on November 8, 2016, JLF announced its fourth list of 10 speakers who will be a part of the Jaipur Literature Fest scheduled for January 2017.

About (in brief)


Hari Ram Meena

- Rajasthani author and poet

- an IPS officer

- Winner of the 2012 Bihari Puraskar for his Hindi novel Dhooni Tape Teer

- Author of When Arrows Were Heated Up and Travels in the Adivasi World


Neerja Mattoo

- Formerly a professor of English and Head of English Department (HoD) at Government Women College, Srinagar

- Translated a collection of Kashmiri short stories under the title ‘The Stranger Beside Me’


Sadaf Saaz

- Bangladeshi poet, activist and entrepreneur

- Co-director and producer of the Dhaka Literature Festival


Robert Blackwill

- Former US ambassador to India

- was awarded the Padma Bhushan


Rachel Dwyer

- Professor of Indian Cultures and Cinema at the School of Asian Studies, University of London

- did PhD research on the Gujarati lyrics of Dayaram (1777-1852)

- has research interest in Hindi cinema


Dambisa Moyo

- a global economist and author who analyses macro economy and international affairs

- among Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2009


Azam Zanganeh

- has contributed to literary articles, interviews and essays

- contributed to publications like The New York Times, Le Monde and The Paris Review

- has taught Romance literature and cinema at Harvard University

- will visit JLF for the first time


A N Wilson

- English writer and newspaper columnist

- some works include The Vicar of Sorrows, Gentleman in England, The Victorians


Hyeonseo Lee

- a North Korean defector

- her recent memoir ‘The Girl with Seven Names – A North Korean Defector’s Story’ published in 18 languages

- over 8 million people viewed her TED Talk about her life in North Korea, her escape to China and struggle to bring her family to freedom


Vladimir Lucien

- writer, poet and critic from St. Lucia

- works appeared in The Caribbean Review of Books, PN (Poetry Nation) Review, Wasafiri and Bim Magazine
