Major Fire in Footwear Manufacturing Factory in Jaipur


A major fire broke out in a footwear manufacturing factory in VKI’s Road No. 9 area of Jaipur on Sunday.

Sanjay Sharma, the Chief Fire Officer said that 14 fire tenders (fire engines and tankers) were pressed into service to soak the flames in the factory. The tankers ferried water over a 100 times to douse the rising flames. A hydraulic machine also had to be used in the rescue operation so as to bring the fire under control. Still the fire could not be doused till late night. According to the fire department officials, the fire became uncontrollable because of some chemical drums kept in the footwear factory.

Dinesh Sharma, the Chief Fire Officer CFO Dinesh Sharma told that Poddar Polymers, the footwear manufacturing company that caught fire, owns 3 factories on VKI Road No. 9 of Jaipur. The first floor of one of these factories caught fire at around 1:30 p.m. It took the officers a lot of time, till late night to blow off the fire completely. They also poured water from nearby factories.

SHO Vishwakarma Police Station, Kunwar Pal Singh reported that the factory, raw materials, manufactured goods and machinery have been gutted and wasted in the fire. 20 labourers were rescued.

However, the cause of the fire is still a question and has not been ascertained yet. Investigation is going on.

The only good part is that no loss of life was reported as the fire broke out during lunchtime.
