India lost its 44-year-old bike enthusiast, Veenu Paliwal, to a tragic road accident. Jaipur’s Veenu was among the top women bikers in the country. She was named the Lady of Harley and was famed to ride her Harley Davidson at 180 kmph. She was on a nationwide biking tour when a tragic accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha district, put an end to the trip and her life.

After Paliwal’s tragic death, luxury bike manufacturing companies have launched a campaign on ‘safe riding’ for India’s women riders. The country is a home to several riding groups with somewhere around 700 bikers in all. Bike companies have taken the responsibility of the safety of several women riders’ groups including the First Gear Riding School for Women, Bengal’s Lady Bikers and Hop off Girls Women Riders group.

These bike companies include many big names, varying from Harley to Royal Enfield. The campaign aims to tell riders about traffic rules and safe riding techniques. Several groups have joined the campaign and have advised women to ride in groups and not alone.

Vaishali of Jaipur’s biking group reveals about plans to join Royal Enfield’s campaign named ‘India is a safe country’. This campaign has been launched in two cities so far and will soon be started in Jaipur as well. Architect Vaishali Master, entrepreneur Nupur Saxena and Madhvi, will take part in the campaign.

Numerous women groups have started their own awareness programs on safe riding in various cities. Most of these groups have some set rules to enroll new members. One of the important rules is to follow traffic rules strictly. Women riders are given appropriate training for riding safe, once they join these groups. You will be amazed to know that these groups have several highly qualified members; from entrepreneurs to advocates, to travel and tourism graduates and more.

Passion for riding is appreciated. But what should be the number one priority for all riders is ‘safe riding’. Ride Safe, Ride Longer!!
