Moti Dungri : Temple of Lord Ganesha


The religious nature of the Jaipur City is influenced by the holy shrines as these temples in the city depicts the historical and cultural roots the devotion of dwellers of Jaipur. Amongst all the shrines and holy places Moti Dungri is worth mentioning. This artistic temple offers an enchanting view and catches the sight of onlookers. It gets the limelight with its stunning architectural layout and astounding carvings. Moti Dungri Temple is one of the most visited and holy shrines of Pink City, ideally located at the heart of city attract the viewer. This is the temple of Lord Gajanand is very popular for its divine power. The architectural layout of the temple represents the rich cultural heritage of Jaipur.

The temple is flocked by the architects and scholars always and tourists visit the place to have flavor of holy culture. It becomes the center of attraction and most visited place at the time of festivals like Paush Bada, Annakut, Janamasthami and Ganesh Chaturthi as these festivals are celebrated by the devotees on large scale. People take part in the preparation of celebrations. Thousands of visitors come from different places to enjoy these festivals and to pay their regards to Lord Ganesha. A fair is also organized on every Wednesday. Devotees visit temple on daily basis and seven darshans are arranged for them. Theseseven divine darshan opens specially on Wednesday with fixed timings (5:00 AM - 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM - 9:30 PM). There is no any entry fee. People generally use red clothes, unbroken rice, sindoor and yellow ladoos during worship.

History of Ganesh Temple

It was constructed in 18th century by Seth Jai Ram Paliwal. It has become one of the popular tourist’s attractions due to its exotic location and auspicious idol of lord ganesha. The idol is in sitting posture and covered with sindoor that attracts the devotees and position of the trunk of the elephant is considered very auspicious. There is also an idol of rat (Mushak Raja) made of marble which also lure the heart of devotees.

The temple walls are amazingly decorated with silver and gold and covered with the mythological images. This divine place inspires the people and fills them with positivity. This temple is situated close to Maa Durga and Shri Krishana temple that makes the location more ideal. This is such an amazing and lovely place to get tranquility and peace of mind.

Timings to visit temple

One can easily reach Moti Dungri temple as it is easily accessible from any location of the city. You can visit it any day. This temple remains closed for 3 hours (1:30 PM to 4:30 PM) each day for the visitors.

Regular transport is accessible from all the area of the city and the most suitable way to reach there is to board city bus which plies on the route.

From Airport

Via Cab or Auto

  • Distance from airport is 9.6 km via Jawahar Lal Naharu Marg (via JLN Marg).
  • Cab or auto will take 25-30 min for reach Moti Dungari.
  • Charges for one side is approx. for auto Rs. 100 - 120 Indian rupee.
  • Charges for one side is approx. for cab Rs. 120 - 140 Indian rupee.

Via Public Transportation

  • Bus service is available for Moti Dungari.
  • You will take auto and reach Jawahar Circle , than after that from Jawahar circle you will take bus 3Atowards Choti Chopad, it will drop you at SMS Hospital , from there 1.4 km,  you will take auto (10 minutes’ drive distance of Birla Minder, 
  • It will take more than 60-70 minutes ,

From Railway Station

  • Distance from railway station is 5.6 km (via Bhawani Singh Rd).
  • Cab or auto will take 25-30 min for reach Moti Dunagri.
  • Charges for one side is approx. for auto Rs. 90-120 Indian rupee.
  • Charges for one side is approx. for cab Rs. 120-140 Indian rupee.

Via Public Transportation

  • Bus service is available for Moti Dungari.
  • You will take auto and reach Central Railway Hospital, than after that from Central Railway Hospital you will take bus 10towards Galta Gate, it will drop you at JDA Circle , from there 500 m,  (10 minutes Walking distance of Birla Minder, 
  • It will take more than 25-30 minutes.
