10th Zee Jaipur Literature Festival – Where Literature Meets the World

Touted as the “Kumbh of Literature”, the greatest literary show on earth turns 10 this January. This year the world’s biggest literary conclave expects to host more than 300 speakers (including but not limited to authors, musicians, pop-stars, dancers, and journalists) and more than 2500 delegates from all across the world. The best ever 10th Zee JLF will witness some of the big names from the literature, movie, and arts industry from across the globe discussing, debating, and celebrating the ideas to enrich the experience and creativity.

What is in store this year?

With an amazing line up of speakers from across the world, this year’s Jaipur Literature Festival will celebrate the 70 years of Indian Independence. The six major themes of the festival include – “Freedom To Dream – India @ 70”, “Colonialism And The Legacy Of Raj”, “Translation And World Literature”, “Sanskrit”, “The Magna Carta”, and “The Women And The Marginalised Voices”.

For the very first time in the history of Jaipur Literature Festival and perhaps India, the facsimiles of “The 1215 Magna Carta” are coming all the way from British Library to Jaipur. The facsimiles will be displayed all across the festival hub – Hotel Diggi Palace.

This year’s festival will start with the soothing voices of “Shillong Chamber Choir” and with keynote speeches of the big names of literature industry – Gulzar and Anne Waldman. From 19 Jan to 23 Jan, the state capital will be looking forward to these flagship sessions and famous speakers.

Morning Music which is held at Hotel Diggi Palace – Front Lawn will allow some beautiful voices of music industry to sizzle the freezing mornings of Jaipur. The show will start with “Shillong Chamber Choir” on 19th Jan followed by Padmini Rao, Debashish Dey, and East Meets Middle East.

At Music Stage which takes place at Hotel Clarks Amer will witness some amazing sufi, Rajasthani folk, hip hop, rock and classical music beats of the best ever The Raghu Dixit Project, Bombay Basementt, East Meets Middle East – EMME, Sam Amidon Beth Orton, and many more.

Heritage and the World

To acquaint people with the arts and culture of Rajasthan and to spread the word with the help of literature, music and storytelling, the festival organisers puts together some of the amazing minds of literature and music industry. This year, the festival will be organising two fringe heritage events in front the beautiful backdrop of Hawa Mahal and Ganesh Pol, Amer Fort. For the heritage events this year, Anne Waldman and Swanand Kirkire – two of the leading poets from two sides of the globe will recite their poetry, Padma Vibhushan Ustad Amjad Ali Khan - A man who has proven his indomitable belief in the integration of life’s two greatest forces - love and music will perform at Amer Fort Jaipur on 20th January.

On 21th January, Vidya Shah will reflect on changing times through song and actor Luke Kenny will punctuate with poignant poetry and quirky banter at Hawa Mahal, Jaipur.
