Do you also think that Chhath Puja is all about the celebrations in Bihar? Then, you are wrong. The people of Jaipur are always joyous about celebrating festivals and following all religious rituals related to such festivals. The same goes true for Chhath Puja as well, which is a festival dedicated to Lord Sun.
You can join Jaipurites along with migrants from the states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh who will celebrate Chhath Puja on Sunday, November 6, 2016.
Here in Jaipur, people of Jaipur gather at the Galta ji Lake to take an early morning bath and to worship the rising sun here. The observance of Chhath Puja festivities is most common among the Bihari community of Jaipur but several others also observe it. Thousands of devotees flock to the Galta ji Lake to worship both the rising and the setting sun by standing in water and offering rice, sugarcane and seasonal fruits covered in red or saffron coloured cloth.
Taking an early morning holy dip into the kunds at Galta ji is considered sacred. Some people from the Bihari community also choose to observe fast throughout the day and stay by the lake from dawn to dusk until the evening rituals are completed.
