Women helpline, a centre established by State Women Commission to provide help to females in case of emergency is itself looking helpless against mal-treaters these days.
Male-treaters have created a great nuisance to the city women helpline. They are mistreating the counsellors attending the calls on the helpline desk of State Women Commission. Police is also looking helpless in absence of records from mobile companies.
More than 100 calls are coming every day in a span of 3 hours on helpline desk. Almost 95 calls out of these are fake. Some of them mis-treat the counsellor while others even threaten the counsellor of rape. Even some mal-treaters call around 30-40 times and converse vulgarly with the counsellor.
Lines of helpline desks remain busy because of this and females are unable to seek for help from helpline in an emergency.
One mal-treater threatened the female counsellor of rape by calling her on helping desk. Even when counsellor asked the mal-treater to stop else his number would be given in police, he unaffectedly, keep calling her again and again. Every time, he threatened her of rape.
Few days ago, officers of Women Commission gave the list of contact numbers of mal-treaters to the Jyoti Nagar Police Station. Four days have passed but still police is unable to avail records of those mal-treaters from mobile companies.
This is creating double problems as it is not only making police unable in proceeding further but also making mal-treaters more fearless and they are continuously mis-treating the counsellors.
This issue raises a serious question that if the females carrying on the responsibility of women helpline desk aren’t secured, how can the other females of pink city can be safe?
“Commission hasn’t received any information relating to proceedings of police on mal-treaters”.
“ we have provided the list of contact numbers of mal-treaters to the mobile companies for getting records of IDs from them. No answer has been received so far from their side.”
If the regulatory and the police authorities are looking helpless to track the mal-treaters, not much can be expected from anybody else. Government shall have to instruct the police to be more strict in the case since vulgar behaviour with counsellors of women commission is a direct message to the mal-treaters that security of women of state is not in the priority list of the administrative authorities.
