Jaipur Moms Turning Into Entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurship and motherhood are two very challenging tasks on their own. And then, here are Jaipur Moms, who are successfully managing their homes as well as business ventures together. Mother’s Day has just passed by and we are here to share inspiring stories of mothers from Jaipur, who are an inspiration to all aspiring mompreneurs in the city.
Kavita says she has been passionate about painting always. So, she started doing stain glass painting at home while her daughter was just 1 month old. One day her friends asked her to put up an exhibition of all her amazing artworks. Since then, there was no turning back. She has been putting up exhibitions for 12 years. But then she faced breathing problems due to her deteriorating heart. She was advised to stop painting because of the chemicals present in colours. But she had a Plan B and that was jewellery. She then started sourcing gold and kundan jewellery, displaying them at exhibitions in Jaipur and Mumbai. Kavita set up her own store last year.
The 40-year-old, Shalini Agarwal says, “She wasn’t meant for a 9 to 5 job”. She always wanted to do something of her own. But she got married early and then had children. Her family life kept her busy for years, until her daughter shifted to Delhi for further studies. Her daughter’s absence made her feel lonely. It was then, that she started her home décor and gift-boxes business, which now keeps her occupied. Her business has also helped her gain recognition. She now plans to take it online so as to reach more and more people.
Shalu is a mother of two kids. She started her own venture in the year 2006, after her elder son turned 10. She has always been passionate about jewellry and her husband was into jewellery business as well. She launched her startup, seeing a market for contemporary and light-weighted jewellry. She says that initially it was challenging for her to give time to her two boys while managing business but now it’s all good.
She started a small block printing venture in the year 1999, which later turned out to be big. A mother of two, Rekha belongs to Mumbai. She shifted to Jaipur after marriage. Rekha started visiting her husband’s factory when her kids were young. But she had a passion for fashion, because of which she started her block printing venture. She started with putting up exhibitions in different cities including Chennai, Jaipur, Kolkata and Mumbai. Later she collaborated with other designers, which led to her putting up group shows. Once she succeeded in building a good network, there wasn’t any looking back.
A Chartered Accountant before marriage, Deepika Agrawal left working post marriage. But then she joined the ICAI, Jaipur as a secretary when her baby was just 9 months old. She then got promoted to become the Vice Chairperson of ICAI in 2010. A year later she left her job to start something of her own. She started her silver jewellry label in 2012 because of her love for art. It was difficult to convince her family but her husband supported her well.
All these mothers are doing quite well in their entrepreneurial ventures along with taking care of their kids and families. Jaipur Moms are truly an inspiration!
