Union Public Service Commission in India rolls out the results for civil services. The results were declared on May 10, 2016. UPSC civil service examinations are one of the most prestigious examinations organized and coordinated in the country. The results portray three girls in the top ten positions for civil services. According to the last year statistics, there were five girls in the top ten positions for the same examinations.
This year Ms. Tina Dabi has topped the UPSC examinations. Aged 22 years, this is the first attempt of Ms. Dabi for these examinations and she cleared and topped them successfully in the very first attempt itself. She is also the first person to clear the examinations in first attempt at such an early age. She has been the topper of the senior secondary examinations (12th) of CBSE Board and was also the topper of her college. She has graduated from one of the prestigious colleges of the country, Lady Shri Ram College in New Delhi and her schooling is from Jesus and Mary School, New Delhi.
Ms. Tina’s father is a senior officer in Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and is posted in New Delhi. The family and its roots are from the city of Jaipur but Ms. Dabi was born in Bhopal. Her grandfather and grandmother reside in Heerapura Nagar in Rajvihar locality in Jaipur. Tina’s father was born in the city of Jaipur and thus, her paternal residence is in Jaipur.
Central Information Minister and Rural Parliament Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore congratulated the family on this occasion.
Ranking on the second position in the civil service examinations is Athar Aamir –Ul-Shafi Khan from Kashmir. This was the second attempt of Mr. Athar for these examinations.
On the third position is Mr. Jasmeet Singh Sandhu of New Delhi.
Tina Dabi aspires to be a role model for all women. It was Tina’s dream to crack the Civil Service examinations. She gives the credit for her victorious results and success to her mother. Her mother is an idol for her and also her motivator. Her mother is an engineer and has served for the Indian Engineering Services. After working for a long stretch of period in the telecom industry, her mother opted for voluntary retirement scheme, solely to teach and educate her daughter and prepare her for the civil service examinations.
After graduating at an age of 20 years, Ms. Dabi took a year’s break to gear up and prepare for these examinations. She revealed that her Personal Interview round stretched for about 40 minutes, where she responded to each and every question that was put up by the members of the interview panel. She was extremely confident about clearing the examinations but the news of having topped the examinations came as a surprise!
Ms. Dabi has chosen Haryana as a cadre, for she finds working there as highly challenging. She is waiting for her training to begin now.
Hailing from the Anantnaag district in Kashmir, Mr. Athar was chosen for the Indian Rail Services in the year 2014. At present, Mr. Athar is training in Lucknow. His grandfather is a farmer and lives in the village. His hard work and determination has taught him to be hard working. Mr. Athar is willing to devote his life to serve the people of the country. He has opted for Jammu and Kashmir as a cadre, for he believes and says that his services are required there and it will be for the betterment of the people if he gets posted there.
Mr. Jasmeet’s father is in the Agricultural Research Department of the country. Jasmeet successfully passed the examinations in 2014 and was chosen for the Revenue Services Department. At present, he is in Faridabad, where he is undergoing training in the Narcotics Academy. It was his 4th attempt for the civil services examinations, which he has passed now. He bestows the credit for his success to his mother, father and friends. His family’s dream of seeing him clear the IAS examination has come true.
Ashish Tiwari, 6th rank holder, is employed as a mechanical engineer in Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) since the year 2011 in the city of Jaipur. Ashish tasted success in the second attempt.
Pratap Singh, 15th rank holder, is an Indian Institute Of Technology, Kanpur (IIT) pass out. He hails from Morija village in the city of Jaipur. He was the topper of the Indian Forest Department examinations, held last month. His mother is not educated but has always motivated him to study.
Gandharwa Rathore, 93rd rank holder, resides in Vaishali Nagar, Jaipur. Ms. Rathore has done her B.Com and M.Com from Delhi University. Her father, Mr. Devendra Singh Rathore, is a resident of Bajekan, Sirsa district in Haryana. At present, he is one of the prominent business and tourism specialists in Jaipur.

Candidates who Applied: It is estimated that applications were received in a gigantic number of 9.46 lakhs, out of which merely a small percentage, 0.11% of the candidates have been selected.
Candidates who made it to the First & Second Round: 63 thousand (49%) of candidates sat for the PT examination, out of which 15008 candidates qualified for the mains examination.
Candidates Selected for Final Interview: Yet again, out of 15008, merely 2914 candidates were called down and scheduled for a round of personal interview.
Ruveda Salam, the first IPS officer of Jammu and Kashmir, has now qualified and become an IAS officer. Hailing from the Kupwara district, Ms. Ruveda was chosen as an IPS officer in the year 2013 and at present, she is the Superintendent of Police in Chennai.
