SMS Hospital Jaipur – Training Centre for Cochlear Implant in India
The Sawai Mansingh hospital (SMS Hospital) in the city of Jaipur is set to train the doctors across the country. The doctors at the SMS hospital have been chosen to impart training and fellowship to the doctors of the county for the cochlear implant - a surgically implanted electronic device that provides a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing in both ears.

Dr. Manoprakash Sharma, President of the SMS hospital and Superintendent of the ENT department shared that Dr. Mohnish Grover has been chosen as the coordinator for the training of the cochlear implant by CIGI (Cochlear Implant Group of India).

Dr. Mohnish Grover in conversation shared that cochlear implant is an electronic tool that bypasses the whole ear of the human. The tool is divided into two sections, wherein the outer section of the tool catches the sound produced in the external environment and codes it into a signal and transmits it to the inner section of the tool. The inner section of the tool with the assistance of electrodes, produces sensation in the hearing nerve and carries the sound produced to the brain.
