The life of the erstwhile rulers has always fascinated us. Everyone wants to live a life of a king or queen. Indian Railways has made it possible for you. With luxury trains like Palace on Wheels, Maharaja Express and Royal Rajasthan on Wheels, the ministry has given three of the most beautiful and regal engines to the royal city of Rajasthan.
The Royal Rajasthan On Wheels is one of the most luxurious trains of India which offers a delightful royal sojourn through the erstwhile period of Rajputana Reigns. The train was launched by the ministry of Indian Railways in association with Rajasthan Tourism and Development Corporation to promote tourism in Rajasthan.
The train takes you on a week-long trip to the splendid forts and palaces of Rajasthan, and to the magnificent Taj Mahal, Agra, which is known as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Royal Rajasthan on Wheels’ royal journey starts every Sunday evening at 04:30 p.m. from Safdarjung Railway Station, New Delhi. The train terminates at Safdarjung Railway Station, New Delhi at 07:00 AM the following Monday.
The Royal Rajasthan On Wheels started on December 2008.
After a huge and splendid success of The Palace On Wheels, Rajasthan’s second luxury train was announced by then minister of state for tourism, Ms. Usha Punia. The concept of this luxury train in India follows the model of very famous and magnificent ‘The Palace On Wheels’. The train follows the fashion from the erstwhile period, giving this train a highly classic look. The coaches of the train are designed in a way similar to the coaches of the train on which erstwhile rulers of Rajputana, Gujarat, the Nazim of Hyderabad, and the viceroy of British India used to travel in all luxury.
The interior of The Royal Rajasthan has been designed and renovated over time. Painted Blue from outside, the train has some amazing interior selection to match the luxury of the erstwhile rulers. The coaches of the train are designed and decorated keeping the royal colours in mind.
The 13 saloons are divided into two categories – Super Deluxe Saloons and Deluxe Saloons. They have been named on the names of the palaces of Rajasthan such as Hawa Mahal, Chandra Mahal, Surya Mahal, Moti Mahal, Sukh Mahal, Jal Mahal, Padmini Mahal, Kishori Mahal, Phool Mahal, Jogi Mahal, Kumbha Palace, Umaid Palace, Lalgarh Palace and Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal is the Super-Deluxe coach.
Exquisite silk bedcovers and draperies make your journey as munificent as the princely states of Rajasthan. In the Super Deluxe Saloon, an Ottoman, Sofa-Chairs, and Writing Table have been provided by the designers of the train to make your sojourn more pleasant. The suites have been perfectly named after the two precious jewels (stones) – Emerald and Diamond – Matching the colours and luxury of the saloons.
Designed with different colour tones and textures to ameliorate the splendour the coaches, the elegant silk covers, comfortable upholstery and writing table befit to the aesthetic appeal of the saloons. The suites of the saloon are names after the famous jewels – Ruby, Sapphire, and Pearl – matching the hues of luxury and comfort.
2 restaurant cum kitchens named after two famous Mahals of Rajasthan, Sheesh Mahal and Swarn Mahal offer a wide range of delicious meals, serving you with the mouth – watering delicacies of Rajasthan, Continental and Chinese cuisine. Meals are served in specially designed crockery with hand – made cutlery.
1 bar cum lounge serving Indian liquor and a variety of scotch, wine and cocktails is also there in the luxury train.
