Driving your own vehicle is the most convenient and the least time consuming way to commute or roam around in Jaipur. And then, there are people who love driving their luxurious cars/stylish bikes across the city. But for this, you need to have a Driving License.
A Driving License is an official document that permits the individual holding it to operate one or more types of motorized vehicles on the roads. Here in Jaipur, driving license is issued by the Transport Department of the Government of Rajasthan.
There are two stages for obtaining a driving license:
You need to meet a minimum age criteria to apply for a driving license. For learning licenses, the minimum age of the applier should be as follows:
You need to submit Rs.280/- in total on the cash counter of the RTO office.
As the name suggests, a Learning License is the license needed before you begin learning a vehicle. This learning license will be valid for a period of six months, as per laws by the government. This license permits you to drive the vehicle on roads for the purpose of learning to drive efficiently and confidently. Once you get a learning license, you need to put letter ‘L’ for Learning in Red colour, at the front as well as back side of your vehicle. This is to let other drivers on the road know that you are still learning so that they can cautiously drive past you (preventing accidents or conflicts).
There are two methods to apply for a learning license in Jaipur – the Manual Process and the Online Process.
Step 1 In order to apply for a learning license in Jaipur through the manual process, you need to visit the RTO office in Jaipur. Jaipur’s RTO office is located in the Jhalana Dungari Area.

You have to go through it and memorize the rules for your computerized exam.
Step 4 As an applicant, you will be required to reach the RTO office at least 15 minutes prior to the allotted time for your computerized exam. The exam will be carried out on a touch screen monitor. You need to give a minimum of 60% correct answers in order to clear this exam. You’ll be eligible to get the learning license only after you clear this computerized test.
Once you have the Learning License in hand, you can proceed to the next stage and apply for a permanent license.
Applying for a learning license in Jaipur through the online process saves you from the hassles of visiting the RTO office again and again. You can apply online sitting right at the comfort of your home or office.
The steps are more or less than the same. The only difference is the medium. So, here is what you need to do to apply online for a learning license in Jaipur.

Step 6 After a period of 45-50 minutes, you will be required to appear for a computerized test, on a touch screen monitor. The test contains 20 questions out of the ones you read in the booklet.
Step 7 You need to provide a minimum of 12 correct answers so as to clear the test. Only then, you will be eligible to get the learning license.
Once you have the Learning License in hand, you can proceed to the next stage and apply for a permanent license.
A permanent license allows you to drive your vehicle on the roads without being caught by the traffic police. You do not have to keep the letter ‘L’ pasted on the front and back of your vehicle, once you get the permanent license.
In order to apply for a permanent license, you must own a learning license. You get eligible to apply for a permanent license only after a minimum of 30 days from the issue date of your learning license.
The process of applying for a permanent license in Jaipur is very much similar to that for a learning license. There are two processes to apply – the Manual Process and the Online Process. The only major difference is that applicants have to give and clear a driving test under the supervision of an officer, in order to get a permanent license.
Step 1 Once you have completed the minimum 30 days period from the issue date of your learning license, you will be required to revisit the RTO office in Jaipur.
Step 2 Show your learning license to the RTO officer. The officer will then provide you a form to fill or he will assign a fixed date and time for your driving exam.
Step 3 Ensure that you reach for the driving exam in time along with your vehicle (car or bike) and all necessary documents (the ones you submitted for your learning license). The driving exam is simple. You just have to drive your vehicle forming an ‘eight’ (8) on the road. If you do so the right way following all safe driving guidelines, you will clear the exam.
If not, you can always get new exam dates from the RTO officer and follow the same process again.
Step 4 After you clear the driving exam, you need to go into the RTO office, where an officer will capture your photograph and signature. You will have to submit the required documents to the officer.
Step 5 Once you complete these formalities, you will receive a final date, on which you can collect your permanent license from the RTO office.
