In the 1727AD that Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the 19th Raja of Amer decided to build a new capital. It was then that a new capital, Jayapura (later renamed to Jaipur) was established and Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II became the 1st Maharaja of Jaipur. Ever since then, the city of Jaipur has had several Maharajas, Maharanis, Princes and Princesses in its royal family. At present Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh is the titular Maharaja of Jaipur.
