Dhanteras – Friday, October 28, 2016

The five day Diwali festival starts on Friday, on October 28, 2016, in Hasta Nakshatra with the first day being celebrated as Dhanteras. The festive time will be positive for everyone. Lord Dhanvantri is said to protect you from all obstacles and illnesses. According to astrologers, you should perform pujas in pradoshkaal during morning and evening on this day. The right puja timings for this day are:

- 8:01 a.m. - 10:47 a.m. in the morning

- 5:40 p.m. – 6:55 p.m. in the evening

According to Shastra, buying a utensil on this day is like inviting goodness and prosperity. This promotes the presence of wealth and prosperity in the home all round the year. You should bring some food and sweets and fill that utensil with these. It is a way to seek blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.

Roop Chaudas/Chhoti Diwali – Saturday, October 29, 2016

Saturday, October 29, 2016 will be celebrated as Roop Chaudas. People wake up early before sunrise and have a bath after applying ubtan and oil. Doing this is said to keep you safe from illnesses because it is believed that on this day Goddess Lakshmi is present in oil and Goddess Ganga in water.

Diwali – Sunday, October 30, 2016

Sunday, October 30, 2016 will be the main Diwali. On this day people will worship Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth to seek blessings and wealth for the coming year. The Lakshmi Puja timings for this day are as follows:

- Sarvashreshth muhrat: 6:50 p.m. – 7:03 p.m.

- Pradoshkaal: 5:42 p.m. – 8:17 p.m. in the evening

- Vrish lagna: 6:37 p.m. – 8:34 p.m. in the evening

- Simha lagna: 1:07 a.m. – 3:23 a.m. at night

Govardhan Puja/Annakoot Mahotsav – Monday, October 31, 2016

On Monday, October 31, 2016, Annakoot Mahotsav will be organized.

Bhai Dooj – Tuesday, November 1, 2016

Tuesday, November 1, 2016 will be celebrated as Bhai Dooj. It will be the last day of the five day Diwali festival, which is celebrated with great pomp and show.

Special timings for different zodiac signs

According to astrologer P. Dinesh Mishra, performing Lakshi Puja in timings specific to your zodiac signs can prove extremely beneficial and fruitful to them.

The people belonging to Aries, Gemini, Cancer, Libra and Sagittarius must perform Laxmi Puja in vrish lagna from 6:37 p.m. to 8:34 p.m. in the evening.

The people belonging to Taurus, Leo, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces signs should perform Lakshmi Puja in simha lagna from 1:07 a.m. to 3:23 a.m. at night.
